Simone Prescott
Head of Acquisitions, Exact-Match .com Names
I manage a portfolio of exact-match .com names. Each one goes to the operating company it describes best, and finding that company is most of the work.
Before I write to anyone, I map who already trades under the name: the firms that use the words, the customers who search for them, the address each firm uses now. Usually one company stands out. That is the only one I contact.
My notes are short. One observation about your market or your current domain, and one question. A no closes the matter for good.
I work from an office on East Main Street in downtown Richmond, a few blocks from the Capitol and the river. The companies I write to are anywhere in the United States.

Three habits
-
Evidence first
A name is offered because of something observable about your market, never on a hunch.
-
One figure
You hear a single price, not an opening bid with room left in it.
-
A clear no is fine
Declining costs you nothing and ends the conversation.
